The Romanian-American University

Romanian-American University (RAU) was founded in 1991 with the mission to offer education to a high standard of quality, by promoting the American educational values (efficient organization, sense of duty, work-ethic, self-respect and respect for others) combined with the solid and rich academic traditions of the Romanian educational system. The efforts of the entire academic community are directed toward a continuous improvement of the quality of the teaching, learning and scientific research process and of the professional services, in order to create an intellectually stimulating climate for both students and teaching staff. Moreover, the strategic focus on internationalization contributed to RAU becoming an important player in the European Union’s educational landscape.

With six schools and approx. 170 staff engaged in teaching, research and community activities, RAU offers training for about 3,500 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs. RAU students have the possibility to benefit from many academic opportunities such as: exchange study programs and internships abroad, international summer schools, intensive courses taught by international professors, Asian Language courses with native teachers, tourism & aviation courses at the IATA Authorized Training Center, events with international participants, research labs and simulation games.

Closely connected with the business environment, RAU constantly involves partner companies in its academic and research projects. More than 40 partnerships with industry, companies, and banks were created and developed in time as frameworks for long-term bilateral collaboration in teaching and interdisciplinary research. As member of international academic networks, the University collaborates with more than 100 universities mainly from Europe, United States and Asia.

Cărturești

Cărturești has always been more than a bookstore. It was designed as a concept store that can develop a relationship not only with its customers but also with its products – that specific mix of books, music, tea and ambience. A very important feature here is the context in which products are displayed at Cărturești – many efforts went into creating a larger cultural framework for a large range of products. Clients are now accustomed to find at Cărturești not only the original mix but also other types of products that fit their lifestyle. So, some niche products – such as accessories or gifts that are appreciated by a more relaxed, open-minded and witty clientele – find a specific audience only in Cărturești.

Over time, Cărturești became the place to go when you are looking for a smart present. With many new, exclusive product ranges and a hand-picked selection displayed on its shelves, Cărturești is a true ‘cool curator’ for its customers.

In brick and mortar, 2016 is the year when Cărturești expanded in Bucharest by opening three more bookstores, reaching a total of 20 throughout the country: Cărturești Carusel (concept store in a historic building on Lipscani Str. in the city centre), Cărturești MegaMall and Cărturești Park Lake, both in newly-opened shopping centres.

Cărturești also takes pride in one of its most beloved projects: ROD (Romanian Design), a platform specially created to promote Romanian designers. Since 2011 ROD operates in Cărturești Verona in a dedicated space that exhibits and sells products designed and created in Romania.
That is why Cărturești chose to work in advertising campaigns with some of the most creative Romanian graphic designers and illustrators: Ghica Popa, Pisica Pătrată, Maria Surducan and many others. Moreover, in the last few years, Cărturești collaborated with Leo Burnett and JANDL Bratislava on some powerful campaigns to promote reading: “You are what you read”, “Where a book ends another one begins”.

The platform www.carturesti.ro – initiated in 2009 – has reached a new peak in 2016 proving to be a strong actor on the online book market.
Cărturești’s online communication relies on its social media tools – especially its blog and Facebook Pages. The blog.carturesti.ro keeps the customers informed about what’s new in the urban cultural life of the big cities, and schetches the Cărturești community with all its complexity, from news and events organised by Cărturești, to social projects and interviews with the autors and musicians of the moment.
Cărturești’s official Facebook page has gathered an online community of over 246,000 fans (ranking very well on the Romanian Cultural Pages list). Starting from February 2017 there is a new page, Cărturești Educational, dedicated especially to teachers, parents, students and educational institutions, where we post information about the workshops, webinars and seminars Cărturești offers to teachers and students for professional development or learning opportunities.

Street Delivery, the urban arts and architecture festival managed by Cărturești Foundation, has reached its 11th edition in 2016. A few years ago the project was successfully implemented for the first time in a fourth city, Cluj  (after Bucharest, Timișoara and Iași). Meanwhile, in Bucharest, Street Delivery has inspired two independent events: Train Delivery organized in the city’s North Station and Rahova Delivery, focused on solving housing and social integration problems for the residents of the Rahova-Uranus area.

For 15 years Cărturești has been challenging the expectations we have of bookstores in Romania. Although this is the category it usually falls under, Cărturești is less of a bookstore and more of a 'cool curator' and a 'cultural venue' displaying not only books but also music, films, tea, art exhibitions and cultural projects - all carefully selected and mixed.

Littleimpro

Littleimpro is the first improvising theater for children in Romania. Our show is entirely built on children's suggestions.  Children are encouraged to speak in public, use their imagination, creativity and spontaneity in a safe and friendly environment that helps them to link this experience of positive emotions, unbinding to create the show with actors.  Creating a good mood, in a safe and appropriate context of their age, contributes to the development of children's emotional intelligence.

At Littleimpro everybody actively participates in the stage as well as in the hall. The place where the action will take place, the titles of the stories, the invented languages, all of them are taken from the public.

The show is recommended for children aged 6 to 80.
